Sean Montgomery

Sean Montgomery joined the Long Island Rail Road Police Department in April 1991. He started working as a patrol officer in Penn Station, New York. From there, he has worked numerous assignments which has placed him in Jamaica Station, Flatbush Avenue (Atlantic Terminal), Hicksville, Long Island, NY, and train patrol.

Chief Montgomery was promoted to Sergeant in December 1998; Lieutenant 2003; Captain 2003; Deputy Inspector 2004; Inspector 2007, and Assistant Chief in December 2017.

Throughout his career, Chief Montgomery has served in a variety of assignments. These include Commanding Officer MTA Police District 3; Executive Officer MTA Police District 4; Commanding Officer Directed Patrol; Commanding Officer Interagency Counterterrorism Task Force; Executive Officer Emergency Operations Center; Commanding Officer Quality Assurance Division; Commanding Officer MTA Police District 5 - Grand Central Terminal; Commanding Officer Detective Division, Computer Crimes and Executive Protection; Assistant Chief of Administration; Assistant Chief of Internal Affairs; and is currently assigned as the Assistant Chief of Special Services Bureau.

Chief Montgomery served as the Commander of the MTA Police 2009 & 2013 Presidential Inauguration Protection Detail.  

Chief Montgomery was also a guest speaker at the FBI’s 2009 InfraGard and NYS Business Council for Homeland Security in Albany, NY.

Chief Montgomery holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Central University. He holds a Masters of Science in the Administration of Justice and Security from the University of Phoenix. He is a graduate of the 264th Session of the FBI National Academy, April - June 2016.

He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, NYS Chiefs Association Board of Governors Zone 3 representing New York City, Nassau County Chiefs of Police Association, FBI National Academy Associates, National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, ASIS International - Long Island, and the Police Executive Research Forum ( PERF).
